Women's Equity is Still an Issue
While many people believe that we live in a country with no gender equity problems, evidence suggests equity is still an issue!
A January 2005 AAUW study found that the typical college-educated woman working full time earns $44,200 a year compared to $61,800 for the typical college-educated male, showing a difference of $17,600 as a national average. This research shows that the average college-educated woman earns 72 percent of what the average college-educated man earns, showing a gap of 28 cents to the dollar.
On average, families of working women lose out on $9,575 per year because of the difference in pay, causing a large deficit for their families after a series of years, shown as almost a $100,000 loss after 10 years in addition to a loss of higher pension plans.
Unequal pay is a problem in every occupation; even female-dominated positions such as school teachers, medical professions, and university or college professors.
Because of these results, we recognize that equity is still an issue; will you join with us in the fight for equal pay and recognition amongst professional and educated women in the workforce?
